The Impact of a Praying Mom: Different Than We Might Think

During the early years of our marriage and as we welcomed our first child, I discovered the profound impact of Stormie Omartian’s books, Power of a Praying Wife and Power of a Praying Parent. These resources became my guide to intentional prayer for my family, teaching me how to pray specifically for my husband Nathan and our children.

Recently, I came across an intriguing podcast episode by Jennifer Rothschild titled “Can I Pray Scripture Over the People I Love?” featuring Sharon Jaynes. Sharon, author of Praying Scriptures Over Your Children From Head to Toe, shared practical tips and her personal journey of praying for her family. Her story, particularly about a friend’s mom whose prayers led Sharon to Jesus and eventually transformed her entire family, deeply impacted me.

Sharon’s testimony challenged me to reconsider my prayer habits. While I faithfully prayed for God’s protection and guidance over my children, I realized I hadn’t been as diligent in praying for their friends and peers. This revelation prompted me to take action.

As a mom, I started to jot down the names of each of my children’s friends and committed to praying specifically for them. This simple act has not only shifted my perspective but has also enriched my spiritual journey. It’s helped me see each child’s unique path and how I can support them in their relationship with Christ.

In the midst of this busy summer season, I encourage you to join me in this practice. Let’s invest a few moments to pray for the friends who surround our children. Who knows how our prayers might impact their lives and draw them closer to God? Let’s be intentional in nurturing not just our own children but also those who journey alongside them.
